Janet had great news tonight. She has found a psychologist interested in reading her book, tentatively titled The Astronomer’s Daughter, on Emily and schizophrenia, and giving some feedback.
Her selection tonight was on Emily’s father, documenting his depression and breakdown, his methods of healing himself, and the evidence of ego in his journals.
Our discussion included the value of the scene about W.W. in a story about Emily, and how his methods of healing himself may have affected Emily.
A second section gave a brief but fascinating look at the childhood of Emily and Bill, growing up surrounded by the world-famous astronomers who were their father’s colleagues, along with reading from the journal of WW himself, which are available for public reading at the university where he worked.
